About Me – Caroline Corbett
MAPCP, MNAPCP, M.Ps.S.I | B.A. Hons Psychology | M.A. CBT
Hi, I’m Caroline, and I know how important it is to find the right person to support you through challenging times. So, I’d like to share a little about myself—not just my professional background, but also the heart behind the work I do.
My journey into the world of therapy began back in the 1990s in the UK, working with teenagers from difficult home environments. That early experience taught me so much about the power of connection, empathy, and simply being present with someone in their struggle. When I returned to Ireland in 2000, I continued that path—first managing a community after-school programme for children, and later spending over eight years working with young children on the autism spectrum using behavioural therapy grounded in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA).
I’ve always been passionate about learning and growing in this field. While working, I completed a four-year honours degree in Psychology, and then began working more directly with families, schools, and support teams—developing personalised plans to support children with additional needs like ASD, ADHD and emotional dysregulation.
Over time, my interest in the emotional world deepened—not just in terms of behaviour, but through a therapeutic lens. This led me to complete a two-year Master’s Degree in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), where I focused part of my research on supporting the mental health of children with additional needs and promoting their inclusion in mainstream education. Through this work, I also had the opportunity to support parents, siblings, and teachers in navigating the emotional challenges that come with neurodiversity. I have worked across various community and school-based settings, including as a consultant with Foróige, where I supported primary and secondary school students.
My ongoing curiosity about the inner emotional landscape has led me to explore a wide range of therapeutic modalities, continually deepening my understanding and refining my practice. I have many years of experience working with private clients—adults, adolescents, and couples—first in Mullingar, then in Dublin, where I established myself as a full-time counsellor and psychotherapist. In October 2024, I opened a second private clinic in Kilcock, Co. Kildare.
Alongside my private work, I continue to volunteer as a psychotherapist with the Dublin Simon Community, supporting individuals experiencing homelessness and addiction whenever time allows. Looking ahead, I’m eager to connect with fellow practitioners who use body-based approaches to help clients heal and reconnect with themselves, as their work can meaningfully complement therapeutic goals—particularly in supporting somatic processing.
My Approach
The most important part of therapy, I believe, is the relationship we build together. I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you can be yourself—fully and honestly. I take an integrative, humanistic approach to therapy, meaning I tailor each session to suit you and where you’re at.
Whether you're dealing with anxiety, low mood, relationship struggles, burnout, low self-esteem, trauma, or just trying to make sense of what you're feeling, I’m here to gently explore your internal mechanisms with you. My aim is to help you feel seen, heard, and supported—while giving you the tools and strategies that work best for you.
Some of the approaches I draw from include:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Person-Centred Therapy
- Mindfulness-Based CBT
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)– including specialist training in couples work
Sessions can be either online or in-person—whatever feels most comfortable and accessible for you.
Whether you’re coming to therapy for the first time or returning after a break, I know how big that first step can be. If you feel I might be the right fit for you or your family, I’d be honoured to support you on your journey toward healing, connection, and growth.
